Uncertainty
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor
to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in
God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment – 1 Timothy 6:17
I don’t like to think about the negative things that could happen. I
know that life comes with no guarantees.
For example, most of us hope to acquire a profession, trade or at least
some form of gainful employment that affords independence, as well as, social interdependence
and market participation. Yet, in the back of many of our minds, lurk the possibility
that dreams may go unrealized, health can fail, and life, may at any moment
take a terrifying nosedive.
The Greek word for uncertainty in this verse is (adélotés)
Phonetic
Spelling: (ad-ay-lot'-ace)
Definition: the quality of being unseen (of disappearing), indefiniteness, uncertainty.
Definition: the quality of being unseen (of disappearing), indefiniteness, uncertainty.
That pretty
much sums up how we live, doesn’t it? We walk toward the unseen, indefinite
future not knowing how it will all turn out; but, for the Christ follower there
is hope in the midst of uncertainty.
The bible
tells us that our steps are ordered, established, made firm by the LORD and
that He delights or is pleased with us when we walk valiantly, simply, and wholeheartedly
with Him (Psalm 37:23).
We are
encouraged to reverence the LORD and He
will instruct us in the way we should go (Psalm 25:12).
We are
told that God will guard his faithful servants (1 Samuel 2:9).
Satan may
shake us up from time to time with his roaring and warring (1 Peter 5:8) but
through our God we shall do valiantly and He will throw down this wicked enemy (Psalm
60:12).
Submit
yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James
4:7).
Life is
often uncertain and even scary, but take heart, our Father God will make our
unseen future secure as we wholeheartedly walk with Him.
