Pride Before Plummet
They said, "Come, let us build for ourselves a city,
and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a
name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole
earth." – Genesis 11:4
Man loves a mirror.
Given the opportunity for power, fame, or fortune he will often
do whatever it takes to “make something of himself” in the eyes of others. Humans just seem bent that way (1 John
2:16).
A practical way to overcome our personal bias is to practice
being an encourager, modest, humble, people
who do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit (Phil. 2:3).
Now, we cannot do this in and of ourselves, but by surrendering
each day to God’s will and way, His Holy Spirit will do it in us (Romans 6:13
& 19).
If we choose not to, then the old adage will most likely prove
true:
Pride comes before the fall.
